I got one of the Community Surveys from which this census data is derived. I had to choose the box for drive to work because that's how I was getting to work when I filled out the form. At that time, my family and life schedule necessitated that I drive much of the time. There was no box for "How would you PREFER to get to work?" and there was no box for "What's the second most common way you get to work?"

I suppose I could have lied to bump up the percentage one-eenth but the truth is, because of my schedule and my child's schedule and the public transportation schedule and all the stuff we have to do after work/school that takes us all over creation and back some days, I drive.

Now, our summer schedule is much different and rarely do I drive. We mostly bike commute or bus/bike commute. If I were filling it out now, my answer would be different. But I'm not.

Just a sidebar to the sorry state of transportation in the U.S.
