I started using a mirror 25 or so years ago and now I feel totally vulnerable without one. I prefer helmet mounted mirrors but it's so frustrating when the glue gives out and I end up using 1/2 a roll of duct tape and look like some zombie from trash can world. My last helmet mirror finally came off (from the duct tape) and I got a mirror that attaches to the bow of my spectacles. I like it except I am so forgetful I either wear it all day or it takes me a day to find it once I've taken it off.

I believe mirrors should be required along with helmets. Most importantly, it all but eliminates the dangerous twist 'n' turn you must do before changing lanes or turning left. I wish bike rodeos and such would give workshops on mirror use and give our mirrors with helmets. I get so used to having mine on that when I'm walking, I automatically check for the mirror before I move from the right to the left side of the sidewalk.

A while back, someone on this list, I think, sent a link to a great make your own page: http://www.instructables.com/id/E7JEXVOHSKEYWDIVEN/
