By the way, the materials that the BFW Board sent to prospective Board
members (two of whom were actually appointed to fill vacant seats)
earlier this year explicitly said that any BFW member in good standing
who wished to have their name included on the ballot could do so by
requesting it of the Board.

Of course, the Board also reserved the right to choose a slate of
candidates to endorse, which is as it should be. But I presume that
the "applications"to the Board are for the purpose of selecting a
slate of endorsed candidates, and not merely for inclusion on the
ballot.

I think it is admirable of the Board to allow any BFW member to be on
the upcoming ballot, especially given some of comments made on this
list about the Board in the last six months. Although the Board has
not (to my knowledge) had any of the "listening sessions" (in any
locale) that were promised earlier this year, their willingness to
open the upcoming election to the entire membership is a very positive
sign.
