Wheels for Winners Earn-a-Bike program is holding its second annual 24 Hour
Wrench-a-Thon from noon on Saturday, July 28th through noon on Sunday, July
29th. We need your help to make the event a success!
There will be free food (vegetarian and meat), free beer and soda, free live
music, and tons of bike geeks fixing bikes and chatting.
If you are a mechanic...even a beginner...stop by and wrench a bit. But even
if you have NO BIKE MECHANIC EXPERIENCE...we still need you! Come by and help
clean up the shop, sort parts, serve food, or direct people arriving to the
event...or just stop by to learn what Wheels for Winners is about. We want to
meet you!
Last year the first annual Wheels for Winners 24 Hour Wrench-a-Thon was an
outstanding success, with dozens of volunteers participating (many of which
were retained as volunteers throughout the year), media coverage by two
television stations and a radio station, and dozens of bicycles repaired. The
event was fun and energized all who participated.
The goals of the Wrench-a-Thon are:
1. Refurbish as many bikes as possible in 24 hours
2. Recruit new Wheels for Winners volunteers
3. Media exposure for Wheels for Winners program and event sponsors
4. Fun event for existing volunteers
Wheels for Winners Earn-a-Bike nonprofit 501(c)(3) program uses an all
volunteer staff to refurbish used bicycles and present them to children who do
15 hours of community service (or read books/write book reports) through one of
our community organization partners. Each year we work to give away over 200
bicycles to youth in Dane County. In recent years we have also begun to train
and mentor youth in bike mechanic skills.
