#3 is especially critical for the kind of incidents reported here
recently, and for the one I'm about to describe. Some of these acts
ought be prosecuted as criminal acts of violence, as they are done
intentionally or with no regard to the safety of the bicyclist.

A collision of a car with a bicyclist occurred last night on Odana road
on the West side. The bicyclist was returning from the YMCA at about
11:00 pm on Odana Rd. (heading East), and was hit while riding in the
bike lane by a passing motorist. The bicyclist said he was hit in the
hip by the car, knocked off the bike, but that he remained upright by
running out from the crash after being hit.

The bicyclist said the car was a black sedan, possibly a Pontiac, which
had two people in it. The driver of the car didn't stop the vehicle
after the collision, but instead appeared to speed up. (The bicyclist did
not have time to get the car license plate number.)

The bicyclist said he saw the person in the passengers' side look back to
see what happened to him before the car sped up. The incident occurred at
a well lit location, at the corner of Odana Road and This incident has
been reported to the Madison Police.

The boy's mother said he won't be allowed to ride his bike to the Y
anymore and will have to drive instead.
