We have included a concrete traffic table at the bike path in the plans and specs.
Please reference the plans at: http://www.cityofmadison.com/business/pw/contracts/details.cfm?ContractN umber=6020 The diagram for the table in on page 4. Feel free to contact Jim Wolf if you have questions on the details. Larry D. Nelson, P.E. City Engineer Room 115, City-County Bldg Madison, WI 53703 608-267-4227 -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Robbie Webber Sent: Wednesday, August 01, 2007 3:52 PM To: Ross, Arthur Cc: [email protected]; Nelson, Larry Subject: Re: [Bikies] Isthmus Path Closure Blount to Paterson Aug 6 - 20 Arthur and Larry - This means that we have another wonderful opportunity to implement a request that has been hanging out there for years: On the minor streets that cross the Isthmus Path, raise the path up so it runs level as it crosses the street. This would accomplish several things. 1. Elimination of the curb cuts, changes in level, and therefore jarring as bicyclists cross Livingston. This can be especially bad at higher speeds or with a trailer. 2. Clear definition of the path for cross traffic. This will be another way to highlight that the path exists, and cross traffic needs to be careful as they cross. 3. A speed hump would be created for cross traffic, thereby helping with traffic calming as Livingston cross the path. 4. Since the Isthmus Path probably carries more traffic than Livingston, it is the major street vs. Livingston. Therefore Livingston traffic would logically yield if there was a traffic control. The hump/prominence of the path would help define that Livingston traffic needs to slow and yield. If raising the path at this location is impossible - although it would seem a minor modification - at least the path crossing should be reconstructed with some other clear markings such as colored concrete, scoring, or other well defined markings. Thank you for your attention to this matter. -- Robbie Ross, Arthur wrote: > See below for a news release on the closure of the Isthmus section of > the Capital City Path between Blount and Paterson.
