Dear Group,

In a number of the messages on this site it was stated or implied that
there is already a law that motor vehicles must maintain a space of
three feet between themselves and bicycles. Is this true? Is their
actually such a law, or merely a suggestion in some code of conduct?

If, in fact there IS a law (there certainly should be some kind of a
distance law)--that is where Pub.Serv.Annoucement efforts should be
directed-----much like the effective ads run for "highway maintenance"
worker safety. Like with those ads-----the message could blair ITS THE
LAW. The rest of the safety messages are actually secondary to holding
cars to a space distance. And, again,---one doesn't have to wait for
the "ideal" moment with gobs of funding. If there is a distance stature
and a PSA already "in the can." Why not hit the stations to put it on
at their "worst time slot"---one which they can barely give away except
for "personal injury lawyer" advertisements. But if there is no
distance statute---that is the obvious first step to safety.
