Dear Secretary Peters,
I recently read the transcripts of your comments on the NewsHour with
Jim Lehrer on August 15, 2007,
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/transportation/july-dec07/infrastructure_08-15.html.
Specifically, I was astonished to read your trash talk about
pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. You then go on to decry the
hours commuters must spend in gridlock! Obviously, madam, your
thought processes are morally skewed. Pedestrians and bicyclists
constitute a mere 3% transportation mode share nationally, yet
receive far less than 1% of the federal transportation funding.
Meanwhile pedestrians and bicyclists are mowed down by your fellow
motorists at five times the rate of their mode share. Clearly, your
comment is the product of a sick and twisted way of thinking that so
infuses the administration you are a part of.
Walking and bicycling are the *solution* to traffic gridlock, not the problem!
Sincerely,
Michael D. Barrett
