RE: Call legislators to support funding for bicycle trails

This summer, the Wisconsin State Assembly included a provision in the state
budget to provide $19.1 million over two years in funding for bicycle and
pedestrian trails throughout Wisconsin. This is a 38% increase over the last
state budget! Almost as importantly, the proposal separates funding for bike
and pedestrian trails from other “transportation enhancements.” Bicycle
enthusiasts will no longer have to compete with road projects and other
transportation needs for funding.

Since our last communication, this proposal has gained even more support. The
Wisconsin Department of Transportation has informed us that it will support the
bike trail proposal.

It’s time to bring this victory home. Over the next few weeks, legislative
leaders will be working to resolve differences between the Senate and Assembly
version of the budget. We need to make sure that the bike fund is part of that
final agreement.
