Dave,

I am a BFW member of long-standing (with gaps while overseas in Peace Corps). I
am an observer of
the current controversy, and desperate for accurate information. As a
supervisor in health care,
I received management training and learned that terminations are preceeded by
steps of progressive
disciplinary action. I also know that these steps are typically held in
confidence and that the
parties may choose to keep the details private. However, the nature of what has
transpired leads
me to believe that something beyond a "mere" personnel matter is at hand. It
seems like there is a
political struggle of some kind going on. Since it is not just the private case
of someone being
fired for not doing their job or violating work rules, then Board of the BFW
needs to be more
forthcoming about what is happening.

So, if it is a political matter, then opening up the board of directors
election is very much key
to allowing the membership to set the political course for the organization.
Silencing voices by
not allowing a free flow of information is counter productive. If the board is
silencing voices,
then I won't vote for their re-election.

On the other hand, you indicate there are matters of fact to dispute. You can't
just yell "Fire!"
in a theater. You need to show us the smoke and the flames. What inaccurate
information is on Pam
Barrett's website?

If you like, I would be a conduit for your response to the Madison bicycling
lists I subscribe to.
However, I suspect you are well-connected and can get the word out yourself. I
would encourage you
to do that! My and my partner's votes for the BFW board are at stake and we
want to make a good
choice.
