The most recent annual report for BFW is 2005, which is available online:
http://www.bfw.org/about/2005AnnualReport.pdf
I recall reading it when it came out, and it is chock-full of good information.

I don't know the legal reporting requirements, but 2006 is past due.
(Statistics in 2005 report are through June 2006, therefore 2006's report
should have been compiled approximately June 2007). Perhaps with staffing
turnover at the BFW office, it is just delayed?

Dear Group,

I don't know to what legal obligations a "non-profit" is subject when it
comes to their financial records. Since they are not yet "a recognized
religion" and oblivious to disclosure, I would expect that to maintain
"non-profit" status, details must be made public--at least to the IRS
and to members?

That being said, Richard Schwinn's last message alludes to a near
catastrophic drop in the BFW funding during the final period of Dar's
leadership and an apparent rise in the Federation's "fortunes" under
Jack Hirt. ---". . .contracts have grown dramatically since Jack Hirt
has taken over . . . ."

But, what are funding contracts? Who forms funding "contracts" with
BFW? Are they with industry, local government, foundations, wealthy
individuals? Is there a listing somewhere filed for public disclosure?
Or are organizations such as BFW "secret societies?" I have no idea.
Does a reader of this web letter know? Are there "inter-state" and
"intra-state" laws about disclosure? How does this relate to laws
affecting PACs? Is the BFW a PAC?

Questions, questions, does anybody have knowledge about these?

Eric Westhagen
