"Soviet-style land use planning?" Evidently, Eric has decided to resort to the Nazi-style Big Lie to buttress his rather weak arguments.

Smart Growth is hardly a Soviet-style institution. Instead of controlling everything, in the Soviet style, Smart Growth sets rules for what private developers and and can't do. Since government has to deal with the consequences of developers' decisions (traffic, runoff, pollution, etc.), it's hardly unreasonable for government to say beforehand what it will support and what it won't support.

Actually, highway building is the last bastion of Big Government in this country. Highway projects can spent billions of dollars and force people to relinquish their property and move out of their homes and businesses; for some reason, we consider this a normal part of American life.

But land use planning? Evidently, that's for commies.

Dear Group and Matt Logan,

Certainly Matt Logan does have points. But his direction might not be

But then he gets into soviet-styled land use planning. ("Smart Growth") And then he suggests that the transportation lobby is active in regional
planning also.
