Hi,

I went over there yesterday afternoon and measured the holes myself. I'm not
sure what type of ruler Jerry was using, but I measured that the valve boxes
were between two and three inches under the street surface, especially in the
25 and 29 South, and in the 60s, closer to the railroad tracks. There are also
two unfilled holes on the SW corner of Corry and Milwaukee. That drop could be
enough to break a spoke or knock a bike out of alignment.

quoted in 10/15/07 Nation.

Water Utility construction inspector Jerry Schoenemann checked the valve boxes
that were in question yesterday and found that the boxes were 1/4" to 1/2"
below the new pavement. We believe that this to be within specification.

See why I don't use "Report a Problem?" This is the most asinine city response
I've ever seen. Broken spokes for bikes, because somebody screwed up in paving
the street??????

Tim,

The small water shut-off caps you are talking about are supposed to be
recessed so plow trucks don't hit them.
If you want to see if you can get them raised, call the Water Utility
office at: 266-4641.

Message: The street was completely repaved due to sewer replacement.
It's made it a speedway as cars avoid Waubesa, which has speed bumps.
But the little water things that are in the street not manhole covers
are several inches below the street, and thus serious problems for
bicycles. Larry Nelson told me these can be raised. Noted some bad
ones near 59 or 69? Corry, near the tracks, and around 29. There are
also two bad holes right on the southbound side of the street by
Milwaukee Street.
The requester can be contacted
