If the bicycle was purchased in Madison, the bicycle dealer (specialty bicycle shop, department store, used bicycle vendor, etc.) is legally, per City Ordinance, required to register the bicycle at the time of sale. Please let John Rider, Bicycle Registration Coordinator, ([EMAIL PROTECTED] 266-4474) know if this has not happened so he can follow up with the store. I received a call from a police officer a week or two ago with a similar situation to Ann's. The Police Officer was with a citizen and a bicycle and was calling to confirm who the registered owner of the bicycle was. I was able to provide this information while the officer was on the phone. Note that the Police Department has access to the bicycle registration file through their property room.
