Apparently a heated discussion erupted on the MKE listserv yesterday about BFW
communication. I didn't read it all because the subject line was about the
Santa Rampage (which isn't even technically a BFW event, though BFW staff
typically participate). Anyway...I thought people might want to see this
response by a BFW staff member.

In the middle of the discussion someone suggested a blog to post information
and events...which I will again say that BFW already has, but doesn't use
anymore, at http://www.bicyclefederationwisconsin.blogspot.com/

Subject: [milbtw] Communication

            Hello everyone!

Wow, what a hot topic communication turned into on the listserve yesterday!

I’d like to take a stab at the topic from the BFW perspective. First off all
of the staff is acutely aware that our means to communicate aren’t sufficient
right now. To our members we are able to send quarterly newsletters and monthly
e-blasts, but we don’t have a good way to disseminate information to our
non-members and rely heavily upon various non-BFW listserves such as this one
to try to get the word out about not only bfw but all area biking events. Truth
be told, there is a lot going on relevant to bicycles and it makes it hard to
post everything we hear about. With that said we would like to figure out a
better way to easily communicate to more people but need help figuring out the
means to do this.

If you are a tech-savvy person or just spend a lot of time on the web and
have ideas of what we can do to make communication better, please help us out!
I will be out of town at a conference through next Wednesday, but after that I
would love to hear from people about their ideas. If there is interest and
people are available I’d love to set a time for us to get together and
brainstorm options. So if you’ve got the time to help us out or have
suggestions, please contact me!

In the meantime, Milwaukee Bike Winter events are posted in the following two
places: www.bikewinter.org and www.myspace.com/mkebikewinter We will continue
posting events we hear about to the listserve a couple weeks in advance of
events as well.

Something else exciting that you all can look forward to seeing sometime this
winter is a new logo for the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin! That’s right,
we’re in the process of having our logo redesigned! Once we have that done we
will begin work on redesigning our website too! So be patient, we’re aware of
these faults and are trying to address them.

  In Cycling,

  Shea
