Subject: Badger State Trail Mobilization Project

Dear Bicycle Federation Member,

You've been sent this note because our member database indicates you live in a
community on or near the Badger State Trail.

The Bike Fed is organizing our members in order to save the Badger State Trail.
As you may already know, the official group tasked with supporting and
promoting the trail, Friends of the Badger Trail, was taken over by ATV
activists for the purpose of putting pressure on the DNR to re-write the
trail's master plan thereby designating it an ATV highway instead of a
non-motorized trail.

We're mobilizing bicyclists in the area to take it back.

Our strategy:

The Bike Fed is working with REI, Trek Bikes, Pacific Cycles, Saris Cycling
Group and the Bombay Bicycle Club to mobilize a large group of people to travel
to the annual meeting of the Friends of the Badger Trail in Belleville, WI. The
group will sign up for membership on-site, then vote in the evening's
elections.

We have the opportunity to put 3 cycling-centric members back on the Friends of
the Badger Trail board. Membership in the Friends of the Badger Trail costs $15
per year, and includes voting privileges. You must be present at the meeting to
cast a vote.

Meeting details:

Date: Tues. Nov. 27, 2007

Time: 7:00 pm

Location: Belleville High School Auditorium, 635 W Church St., Belleville

What to Bring: $15.00 for annual membership ($12.00 for those >= 55 year old)
which entitles you to vote.

Agenda: There will be a guest speaker, Paul Schoenike, a railroad historian
from Monroe, WI, who will talk about the trains that used to run on what is now
the Badger Trail bed, officer reports on the past year and plans for next year,
and election of 3 officers: VP, Treasurer, and an officer at large.

Sharon Kaminecki, owner of Earth Rider Bicycle Shop and Hotel, is running for
VP. Treasurer and Officer-at-large positions are still in need of qualified
candidates. Please consider running.

Since the current head of the FOBT also happens to be the head of Wisconsin's
ATV lobby, we are keeping this effort "below the radar". If we are successful
within our respective organizations, we can arrive at the meeting with 50-100
cyclists committed to keeping the trail designated as non-motorized - as it was
intended to be.

What you can do:

1) Respond to this e-mail to indicate that you are interested in being part of
this effort. I will keep you informed of our plan of action in subsequent
e-mails.

2) If you don't wish to be part of this effort, please respond by e-mail
telling me so. I will remove you from this list.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.

Regards,
