Queried the group a while ago about pedal-powered machines (intended to write a story for Sustainable Times) but didn't find a lot of successful local examples. (Loads of info on the Web, but I'm looking for local stories.)

It's been a while, though, so I thought I'd check in again. Anyone recharging their cell phone or laptop by bike? Built a contraption to pedal their clothes clean?

A friend tells me the Working Bikes Cooperative in Chicago (http:// workingbikes.org/ ) works on bike machines every Wednesday. Anybody ever gone?

Anybody interested in starting a similar project here? (I envision someone bringing their pedal- or hand-cranked blender to meetings and calling the group "drunks with power"... but maybe drinking and actual mechanical problem-solving don't mix well... )

I can't seem to let go of the possibility of the UW or other gyms capturing even a fraction of the energy being intentionally wasted...
