I am looking forward to the detailed minutes when they are available on the website, in particular these sections of the meeting: 1. Areas of Strategic Focus 2. Established concrete 1, 2, and 3 year goals
I would add that my understanding of strategic planning is that it is the tip of a pyramid composed of 3 tiers: base level: operational planning (day-to-day - this is the work of staff) mid level: tactical planning (how do we enact the strategy this year?) top level: strategic planning (what are the long term - 5 to 10 years - objectives?) Considering the "pyramid" then, the vision statement should be split into its component "levels" so that you can apply yourselves appropriately. I won't take the time to split up the draft vision statement here, since there are a board of directors who can do that. But it is my observation that this vision statement unnecessarily mixes up the operational, tactical and strategic in a way that could be improved by separating them. Work in Progress Vision statement: "By 2015, the BFW will have earned national recognition as a leader in promoting bicycling as an environmentally-friendly, cost-effective, and healthy activity. We will be the 'go to source for all things bicycling' for our growing membership, local and state government agencies, schools and community programs, and event planners across the state. We will have regional offices with talented and experienced staff who view us as an employer of choice. These factors, combined with our deep and diverse cadre of volunteers, committed Board, strong financials, and dynamic website brimming with timely and useful information about the BFW and bicycling, provide us with unbound enthusiasm for our future" George Perkins Madison _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
