Those on this list that believe that good biking is intimately connected to
good land use, please write, email, or show up to comment at the ONLY public
hearing being held on the proposed criteria for urban service area expansion
put forth by the new Capital Area Regional Planning Commission.

Thursday, Jan 24, 7 PM - second floor of the City/County Bldg, 210 MLK Blvd.

Below are a number of links for more information, but the crux of the matter
is that we want compact development, protection of farmland, and protection
of water quality. All of this protects our environment, our quality of life,
and even our wallets, as it is cheaper to provide urban services to compact
development than sprawl.

If you don't want to wade through the voluminous information, the messages
we want to send are:

1. We like the emphasis on infill, redevelopment and density in the goals
and objectives.

2. Elimination of the multiplier or "flexibility factor" is good. The
flexibility factor contributed to sprawl.

3. Keep the Farmland Mitigation elements. We value the precious and
productive farmland that Dane county offers, and we need to use all the
tools available to protect is from development.

4. The Water Quality Plan is not adequate, and needs to be much stronger
before any further urban service area extensions are approved.

Thank you in advance for sending an email or showing up at the public
hearing! If you email comments, they should go to [EMAIL PROTECTED]/.

Letter from many of our environmental friends, posted on the web page of the
West Waubesa Preservation Coalition web site. It has some very good
information on the issues:

Article in today's State Journal, including this quote from the Mayor of
Verona:
"If this was approved, we would never have another Epic move out to the city
of Verona, " Hochkammer said. "We think that 's wrong."
Um, no, that's right. The huge epic campus may be beautiful, but it is
horrible land use, and the people of Verona are now going to pay for it by
paying through the nose for all the urban infrastructure that is needed and
NOT being covered by the new tax base, impact fees, and special assessments.
