Believe it or not, I have not decided who deserves my vote in the upcoming Presidential primary next Tuesday. I have been digging around the internet to find out which candidate is most promising in the area of supporting urban bicycling. Here are a few of the more interesting links:
* A bike-friendly presidential candidate? Not yet. http://bikeportland.org/2008/01/22/a-bike-friendly-presidential-candidate-not-yet/ If the above link does not work, it may mean the site's database server is down - try the link to google's cache instead: http://209.85.173.104/search?q=cache:ply8COb0zMUJ:bikeportland.org/2008/01/22/a-bike-friendly-presidential-candidate-not-yet/+presidential+bicycle&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=us [ This is probably the article most directly targeted at assessing support for bicycling. As the title suggests - don't expect a ringing endorsement for anybody ] * Presidential Candidates on Clean Energy: http://www.bestwaytoinvest.com/stories/presidential-candidates-clean-energy [ While this isn't specifically an evaluation of bicycling, it does highlight several issues that tend to facilitate better urban bicycling. And hey, the link under "4. All externalities of transport solutions need to be considered" is an article by Todd Littman of VTPI ( the single most informative site on transportation issues on the planet) ] * Presidential Views (or not) on Public Transportation http://blog.tstc.org/2008/01/17/presidential-views-or-not-on-public-transportation/ [ Again, this is not directly an evaluation of bicycling, but it does have a couple of good bike nuggets. There's a nice quip fro Ron Paul that sounds a lot like Dubya's quip in 2000 about public transportation in L.A. ] _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
