Dar you always make me chuckle. :) I just sent this information about HPV coming to Madison to my assignment manager at channel 3. Expect some kind of coverage. Thanks Robbie! By the way... This is Della Haugen. I use to work at the Bike Fed but now I'm at channel 3 as a photojournalist. I love getting story ideas from this list. I hope you liked the hummer vs tire air story. I'm personally divorced from my toyota pick-up truck as of last summer. I love the bus, my bike, community car and yes even my Honda scooter. It's a four stroke so don't hate me too much. From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Bikies] fat bicyclists Date: Thu, 10 Apr 2008 19:38:38 GMT To: [email protected] Hello all: Normally I do my darnedest to "lurk." Dar's thread kinda caught my fancy - notwithstanding the fact that I'm even skinnier than usual after getting that godawful virus a few weeks ago. Anyway, here's my marketing scheme: "Fat Folks on Fat Tires" It could be a ride held during bike to work week highlighting the fact that people of slightly less anorexic girth can and manytimes enjoy the bicycle as a mode of transportation. It's kind of late to glom onto bike to work week (apologies to the organizers for dumping a new idea late in the process) but if it's on people's minds, maybe now is the time to address it head on. It's always better, in my opinion, to hash things out in the open rather than have issues fester behind the scenes. I like the whole notion Dar advances because it's one of those unspoken things about bicycling and to the extent that it's gone from a source of frustration to a big stupid remark by Thuy, maybe we could tap this as a "teachable moment." Just a thought. It is parallel to Johnson, has relatively light traffic most of the time, and people can get to destinations such as the Kohl Center via cross streets. (It's also parallel to the Greenbush connector, so the benefits of closure are now much less than would have been up until a couple years ago...
