Dear Group, I would expect that the entire bicycle "community" would be behind such a declaration of stop signs becoming yield signs for bicycles. But, as you say, there should be a plank with the platforms of all bicycle advocacy groups. Since this idea is new to me as a possibility, how many states have passed such legislative changes? This is certainly more than a parochial municipal issue. Personally, I have always treated stop signs as being yield, anyway. But I don't live in a city full of vigilante motorists and conflict like Madison. I cannot see the downside. If a bicycle does collide with a car, the car would only be scratched and the fault would probably fall on the bicycle for not yielding. There should be no downside for the motorist. Otherwise the only conflict I can see would be with those people who just want laws and enforcement like those who squawk and want to ticket "pedestrian jay walkers."
