When I lived near Woodmans west, 20 years ago, (and I would drive everywhere) I
would often get caught in a situation where I would unexpectedly have to slam
on the brakes of my death mobile.  I would be heading south on Whitney Way
towards the Beltline, the traffic lights near the Beltline would turn green, I
would continue to clip along with the expectation that the cars waiting at the
traffic lights would begin to move, my expectations would increase as I saw the
brake lights on the cars turn off - THEN - I would realize that the cars were
going at a snails pace and I would SLAM on the breaks.

Today, for the second day in a row, while I was biking toward a similar type of
intersection where Cottage Grove Road meets Hwy 51 (Stoughton Road), I
heard the LOUD squeal of SUV death mobile tires.  Both times, I snapped around
to make sure that my life was not in danger.  The SUV was two lanes away from
the bike lane.  I can't help but wonder if the situation that I would encounter
in my self-absorbed 20's described above is the situation occurring at CBR/Hwy
51 with these SUV's.

I have lived on the far east side for 12 years.  It is sad to see it start to
resemble the far west side.  It sure would help if the Capital City Trail
extended to Buckeye Road.  How about it?  The funding was approved
and negotiations with property owners were made.  So, what's holding things
up?  Is it Wisconsin Southern Railroad again?
