@ West Washington and Capitol

Followed by later that night:

Movies: "The Life of Brian"*
Starting @ Dusk. 1019 Williamson St.

*What's with all the Bikes?!?*

This is Critical Mass, an unofficial, unorganized group ride to celebrate
bicycling here in Madison!

*Why are you blocking the road?
*
We stick together for our own safety. For that reason we may ask motorists
to wait for our ride to pass.
*
Who's in charge?*

Everyone you see here. We all can and do control the ride. There are no
"leaders." This isn't a protest, it's just a ride. Each person rides for
their own reason, agenda, mission, drive, whatever. Our common ground is a
bike that propes us through the city. Imagine for a moment if we were each
in our own car. Then how tied up would traffic be?

Critical Mass was begun in San Francisco by cyclists who were tired of
riding in fear of cars. Riding together, en masse, the group becomes
impervious to auto traffic. FOr a moment one can imagine a city free of
cars and the problems they create. It's also a lot of fun!

If you have a bike, please, come ride with us. Critical Mass occurs on the
last Friday of every month. Riders congregate on the Capitol's lawn at
West Washington Ave at 5:30pm. All are welcome!
