The Bike Fed said they didn't have anyone available to help staff a bicycle corral for the Blues Picnic at Warner Park last Saturday. Nor did they say they could help with transporting their bicycle racks to the park. Since the organization holding the event was already short on volunteer help to staff the event, it decided to transport the Bike Fed.'s bicycle racks to the park the day before the event.
But from Robbie Webber's message the City recommends against using those Bike Feds racks and would rather mandate that organizations who put on such events find more volunteers to staff bicycle corrals. I personally would rather see the city take more responsibility for these events since it does make money off them (in the form of park reservation fees). The least it can do is provide the bicycle facilities for normal use at each parks; but for some of these parks (Warner, Olin, ...), the weekends that do not have special events may be fewer than the ones that do? Mike Neuman ----- Preceding Message ------ Ann Freiwald Thu, 26 Jun 2008 09:45:53 -0700 I think that providing the bike parking at events like the beer fest can be and is (?) a fund raising opportunity for the Bike Fed. The Fed can confirm this. So, to me, that is a bummer as well as the lack of parking, the removal of a fund raising (and awareness of the organization raising opportunity) for the Bike Fed. ____________________________________________________________ Click here for great computer networking solutions! http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/Ioyw6i3oHgMq2UpXcjrADQeWgj2AMt7jiqUzwdQ9vXH9HEK3aV6Mnp/ _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://www.danenet.org/mailman/listinfo/bikies
