The Bay Area Bicycle Coalition (BABC) seeks to hire a full-time
Executive Director

will be determined based upon the skills and experience of the
selected applicant.

interviews at the end of July or early August.  We are seeking a
September start date.

About BABC: The Bay Area Bicycle Coalition Board of Directors is
composed of representatives from the local bicycle advocacy coalitions
in the San Francisco Bay Area.  BABC represents the local bicycle
advocacy coalitions on issues of regional or statewide significance.
Key issues and projects include:

·        Working with government agencies, such as the Metropolitan
Transportation Commission, Caltrans, cities, counties, and transit
agencies to develop improved bicycle policies and facilities

·        Improving bicycle access to transit systems throughout the Bay Area

·        Securing direct bicycle access on all trans-Bay bridges

    * Promoting cycling via public information, education, and advocacy
    * Coordinating the regional Bike to Work Day promotional event



Executive Director Position

The ED will work under the direction of, and in cooperation with, the
Board of Directors.

Job Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

In conjunction with the BABC Advocacy Committee, implement the BABC
advocacy program to promote and enhance cycling in the Bay Area.
Activities include:  attending meetings associated with the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission and other regional agencies,
evaluating state legislation, analyzing reports, preparing policy
positions, writing letters, providing oral and written comments to
public agencies, meeting with agency staff and public officials,
preparing "action alerts" to local coalitions, etc.

Coordinate implementation of the annual regional Bike to Work Day
promotional event in conjunction with the Metropolitan Transportation
Commission and regional stakeholders

Supervise seasonal Bike to Work Day assistant (and any other BABC
employees or contractors)

Solicit and secure funding, donations, grants; establish a major donors program

Maintain and enhance relationships with public agencies, such as
Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Caltrans, and transit agencies

Work with BABC Board and consultant to develop BABC's three-year
Strategic Plan, and then on implementation of the plan

Strengthen ties with groups such as cycling clubs, bicycle industry,
bicycle advocacy groups in the Bay Area and beyond, the Transportation
and Land Use Coalition, pedestrian advocacy groups, and other
potential allies

Prepare news releases and newsletter items for distribution to local
bicycle coalitions and Bay Area print, radio and television media

Administer grants and contracts

Help prepare BABC budget, coordinate with BABC treasurer

Maintain and improve BABC website

Serve as a contact to the media

Serve as the liaison to the BABC Board of Directors, and prepare
agendas and reports for Board meetings

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

BABC seeks applicants with experience and training in the following areas:

    * Bicycle advocacy (or related advocacy experience)
    * Organizing and coordinating promotional events
    * Organizational development
    * Fund-raising
    * Grant-writing, grant administration, and contract administration
    * Working with Boards of Directors (or similar governing boards)
    * Public outreach and public speaking
    * Strong writing and communication skills
    * Website design and maintenance
    * Ability to work with a wide range of groups and stakeholders
