Actually, they will show you walking directions for much longer distances,
such as this:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=1st+Ave+%26+Pike+St,+Seattle,+WA+98101&daddr=Ellensburg,+WA&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&dirflg=w&sll=47.316483,-121.525269&sspn=0.828595,2.312622&ie=UTF8&ll=47.303447,-121.445618&spn=0.828799,2.312622&t=h&z=9

If you can't paste the link, it's walking directions from downtown Seattle
to Ellensburg, WA, which is 120 miles. I discovered it by accident when I
was trying to find out how far it was to visit a friend. I had already used
the walking directions in downtown Seattle to find the distance between two
downtown locations, and had left the options in the "walking" mode.
Apparently, I can walk to Ellensburg in 1 day, 16 hours.

Metro Transit here in Madison is looking into using Google Transit.

And since we now have a Google office in Madison, maybe they will use our
bike maps to add biking as a search option.
