Ya know, I need some "education" on this topic. Is there a statute (or city ordinance) that defines how bikes may or may not use lanes (other than what I found below) and how cars are supposed to interact with bikes in normal traffic lanes other than the 3 foot rule defined in Wis. Stat. 346.075(1). Potential respondents - I'd like links to statutes or ordinances. I think all of this is probably in http://www.legis.state.wi.us/statutes/Stat0346.pdf . I find the following:346.05 Vehicles to be driven on right side of roadway; exceptions. (1m)Notwithstanding sub. (1), any person operating a bicycle or electric personal assistive mobility device may ride on the shoulder of a highway unless such riding is prohibited by the authority in charge of the maintenance of the highway. ....but not really anything that entitles a bike rider to "own" a lane and that other vehicles must give right of way to them. It is kind of confusing because on one hand a car can pass but I hear others indicate that the bike "owns" the lane and must be treated as an equivalent "vehicle." It seems to me that Wis Stats 346.80(3) indicates that a bike canNOT "own" a lane per the following: (3) (a) Persons riding bicycles or electric personal assistive mobility devices upon a roadway may ride 2 abreast if such operation does not impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic. Bicycle or electric personal assistive mobility device operators riding 2 abreast on a 2−lane or more roadway shall ride within a single lane. I know that a motorcycle and a car cannot "share" a lane yet two motorbikes can share a lane (Wis Stats 346.595(1)). But it is usually a given that the motorbike has the same speed potential of the car (hence does not "impede"). Thanks for any advice offered! MattB

Risser I plan on contacting Sen. Risser, to give him my support. BUT I hope this action doesn't obscure what I think is a more important issue: That cyclists should be able to ride safely in the middle of the lane, far enough from parked cars to avoid getting doored. That motorists should respect bikes as vehicles that are entitled to an entire lane, as clearly spelled out in the f***ing drivers manual. -- ===== darin ---- Cathy Van Maren <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I note that the WKOW article mentioned that Sen.
