Now that bird migration season has started, it's time for
ornithologically-inclined bikers to take their eyes off the bikepath
occasionally. There are some nice surprises in the lakes and the trees
right now.

This morning, for example, as I was riding along the Brittingham Bike
Path, I noticed some large, unfamiliar birds sitting in a tree just west
of the beach. When I looked closer, I noticed about half a dozen
cormorants perched in the tree, flying around, and swimming in the water.
Cormorants!

I've seen cormorants in Florida, and I know they are plentiful around
Green Bay, but I've never seen them in Madison. Take a look if you're so
inclined. They're pretty cool.
