Just for a little perspective:
My husband and I have lived on the near east side of Madison for 10
years. He commutes daily to the high school in Verona - where he is a
teacher. I work in Madison. He has ridden his bike to work in the past
and although it takes 1.5 hours sometimes with a combo of bus and bike,
he enjoyed the commute. Unfortunately, he has a knee injury that
curtailed the riding. He does not enjoy the commute in the car.
Further, we will soon have two children attending the daycare at the
high school, who commute in the car with him. After much consideration,
we have decided to move to Verona and that way, only one person will be
driving to work and 3 family members will be walking to school/work on a
daily basis. Further, school schedules will match and our carbon
footprint will be considerably smaller. So, not every person who lives
in Verona is an urban sprawler.
