Hello all: Since there has been some discussion about the Campus Drive path recently, I wanted to share with you some of the thoughts of the Village of Shorewood Hills. Mark Sundquist, the Village President, had shared some of his thoughts with me informally, so I asked him to put "pen to paper" and allow me to share those with the bikies community.
As you all know, the Campus Drive path currently ends at University Bay Drive. The key is to connect it to the Blackhawk Path, which will eventually connect to the west with on-street bike lanes on Old Middleton Drive, and a possible off street trail on the rail corridor parallel to Old Middleton Drive. Shorewood Hills is in my county board district, so I take an active interest in the plans of the Village. Thanks to Mark for providing this information and for making sure that bicycle transportation is part of the Village Neighborhood Plan. Al Matano Dane County Board, District 11. Al, The Village of Shorewood Hills is close to completing a Neighborhood Plan for the Marshall Court area. A key feature of the plan is a bike path following the railroad tracks from U-Bay to the west side of the village swimming pool, where the path would join Purdue St and easily connect to Shorewood Blvd. To make the path more practical and safe, the plan includes the possibility of a bridge over U-Bay to join to the new University path. Because the Neighborhood Plan is a basically a concept plan laying out ground rules for future development, it is not as specific as zoning code or development plans, so it does not specify the design of the path, or whether it might be integrated into future structures, but it does specify that the path will more or less run along the area adjoining the tracks, i.e., it will not, for instance, be diverted up to Marshall Court. The plan will be put on the Shorewood Hills website once it is approved. The corresponding TIF Plan for the Marshall Court area has been approved and it can be viewed at http://www.shorewood-hills.org/tid_3/info.htm.
