Take it all with a grain of salt, though. These lists of items
submitted by states and local governments were put together before the Stimulus
was, and many projects won't qualify under the current language in
either the House or Senate version. For example in transportation,
because of the requirement that the money be obligated in a few months,
the item for rail transit stations won't fly. It would take a major
effort to make Cannonball eligible, since no construction work is
currently programmed for it. I do have hope that Metro can upgrade its
bus order from diesels to hybrids, though -- that would give 40 percent
better fuel mileage for years and years to come, reducing operating
costs and emissions at the same time.

project"!
Thanks, Matt, for posting the link. On my list of "things to do" was to send
this to Bikies.
If you go to the main page - www.stimuluswatch.org - there is a five minute
tutorial about what you can do on the site. Very briefly, and the tutorial is
better:
1. See what projects are on the list for your area, or by type of project
2. Rate the project by "how critical it is," using whatever measure you feel is
appropriate. This is where the Cannonball Path, and other bike/ped projects is
getting hammered.
3. Put in factual information about the project - where it is, what it would
do, whether it has been vetted at the local level, etc. Provide info for others
that kight help them understand something basic about the project.
4. Discuss the project. This is the place for opinions.
Not just the Cannonball, but also the bridge over Aberg Ave is on that list.
There are other projects for Madison that you may also want to look at or
comment on: parks, water utility upgrades, storm water management, road
projects (Fix it First!), and many other categories.
If nothing else, it's interesting to see what was submitted in Madison and
elsewhere as stimulus projects.

One of the lowest scoring projects in Madison is a bike path!

What this site needs is a little input from members of this list!
