I completely agree with rpaolino on the unfair method of taxation for public 
amenities like sidewalks, and I agree that the opposition to this sidewalk is 
probably just a financial consideration. Indeed, if the real issue here is how 
to pay for the public improvement, those in oppostion should be more direct and 
oppose the taxation and not the sidewalk. Their sign should be changed from "NO 
SIDEWALK" to "NO TAXATION OF SIDEWALKATION" or something like that.  :)

The city must change this ridiculous taxation policy. Partially paying for 
sidewalk and curb/gutter improvements can easily reach into the thousands of 
dollars for each property owner who has the misfortune of owning the property 
adjacent to these public improvements.

When neighborhoods band together to oppose sidewalks, it shows just how bad the 
outcome can be and sets a terrible precedent for future sidewalk 
considerations. Sidewalks are the conduit to our life-blood of community 
togetherness and environmental independence.
