This came through on another list, but I thought some Madison folks might want to know about the event. rep. Jim Obestar is the chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He is a very powerful man when it comes to making federal transportation funding and policy decisions.
He is also a serious bicyclist. Although this ride will not be one of these, he is know for putting serious hurt on his staff and other riding partners, especially those that might secretly question his physical abilities. This should be a fun ride, and also a great opportunity to talk to him about transportation policy. If you happen to feel like taking a hike to the Twin Cities the weekend of Jun 6-7, please contact the Dorian, as he is heading this up. I'm assuming anyone going from Madison would drive up (or maybe take the train), so wouldn't need transportation from/to the Minneapolis airport. (I can't go, or I'd offer carpooling.) Unfortunately, you will have to provide your transportation to and from the MSP airport, meals and lodging in Nisswa/Brainerd the night of the 6th (I can help with finding affordable lodging). I know not many of you have big transportation budgets... but perhaps you can get a cheap air fare. The trip to Nisswa is about 150 miles so you would need to arrive no later than mid-afternoon the 6th and we'd have you back to MSP for an evening (after 6 CDT) departure on the 7th. I can also help with home stays with bikemn members (or our floor, treehouse or garage loft) if you need to stay Friday or Sunday nights.
