Bikies, Thanks Robbie, you beat me to the punch. Not only did the Tocora Path pass last night but also the bike lane on Blackhawk Rd. The Blackhawk Rd. project also passed with only one no vote and I will give you only one guess who that was. Brenda's blog is almost verbatim what was said by Thuy last night and I think everybody save Thuy's husband thought they were going to lose their minds. She kept repeating questions over and over again. When she made the comment comparing changing the covenant to abrogating treaties with native American tribes, people started to openly laugh and decorum really started to break down. I think Arthur Ross found the right tone in dealing with Thuy as he answered her questions about why this connector wasn't built when the Research Park was 1st developed (...namely that the City wouldn't force the issue as a condition of approval of the Research Park in the 1980s). He took on the tone of a father instructing an ignorant child - very direct, simple words of explanation. Thuy's plea for someone to "tell me the right thing to do" was telling. As best my wife and I can determine, she seems to abhor conflict and wants to please everybody. When she inevitably can't please everyone, her default position is to stick with the status quo because she views herself as the protector of those being trampled by the big and powerful (the City) who won't listen to the little guy. She seems especially taken with being the protector of 96 year old women. (I have heard her mention a certain 96 year old woman twice now.) She seems incapable of sorting through claims to determine what the facts of a situation are and thus ends up egging people on who are clearly misinformed which further inflames a situation. But enough of this. Time to celebrate a victory 13 years in the making.
