Hello,

I've been living in Brazil for 4 months now (sheesh - seems like more) and I
have not yet seen a single bicycle parking rack or bike hitching-post in my
city (Campina Grande, Paraiba - copy/paste the following coordinates into
maps.google.com - 7°13'8.09"S, 35°53'2.47"W).

There is plenty of talent to produce racks here (welding, soldering,
plastics) and buying something from far away (overseas) is sure to be
troublesome. I'd love to find a useful guide (if one exists) filled with
models and hopefully even plans so that I could get a few options made for
folks to try out.

Any tips from folks that have had to resolve bike parking issues or have
seen some special solution in place where money is exceptionally tight?

1st cut at requirements (from a person that has never had ANYTHING to do
with building racks):
-Simple steel rack-like construction
-Cheap
-Exceptionally difficult to remove (if it isn't tied down it'll be gone)
-Possibly maximize the use of a street parking space (buildings abut
sidewalks and streets are narrow)
-No lockers
-High density parking
-Design to allow removal of unclaimed bikes (if possible)
-Has to be somewhat agreeable (aesthetically) to city administration

*Anybody know a place where I can find such plans/designs?*

Thanks
Matthew Berigan
