I ride up and down Wilson Street every day, have been doing so since I moved
back to Madison, and did so for years before I left. When I rode into work
the other day and saw the sharrows for the first time my reaction was
confusion. I can't say that I have ever - not once - had an issue with
automobiles on Wilson street.

We have dedicated striped or medianed bike lanes and we have dedicated bike
(to be fair, multi-use) paths and then we have streets. There are only a
handful of roadways in Madison upon which cyclists are not allowed to ride
legally. On the remaining roadways cyclists have the legal right to ride and
motorists have the legal obligation to share the road. The sharrows seem to
offer a mixed message, or at least one which is counterintuitive and a
little confusing to cyclist and motorist alike. They seem, to me, to be
unecessary.

Just my 2 cents.
