I noticed the same thing earlier this week.  It isn't everywhere yet.
I checked the Katy trail in Missouri, and while it is listed it isn't
yet route-able.  They made a really low key announcement about it on

I think Google has at least one hard core biker in their midst,
perhaps he's pushing for it?
