Kathryn,

You can update your battery with a generic model from Batteries Plus and a
little ingenuity. A friend of mine had a similar 6-volt system with a
failing battery. He brought the old battery to the Batteries Plus store on
E. Wash and they set him up with an equivalent battery and matching charger
(for around $20, I believe). The new battery is a square NiCad flashlight
type- the type with spring terminals on the top. My friend cut the top third
off of a water bottle and inserted the battery. He then cut a slit in the
top of the bottle pried it slightly open and tapped it so that it could be
slipped over the lower half. The wires were inserted through the top of
bottle and the hole sealed with silicone sealant. The water bottle can be
inserted into a cage just as the original battery was. The ends of the wires
were cut and fit with alligator clips that clip onto the springs on the
battery. One could fit the unit with plugs matching the original unit. The
charger also connects via alligator clips.

This light set was passed onto me when my friend took a job that extended
his commute to beyond the hour capacity of the battery and he upgraded to
LED. I've been using it for a couple of months and find it very workable.

Subject: [Bikies] replacement battery for old niterider road rat

I have a NiteRider Road Rat I got in 2000 and my most recent replacement
battery is quickly declining. They don't make the replacements anymore, and
they said the closest thing is a Trail Rat battery, for which I would have
to buy a new charger -- which brings the cost up to where one should just
buy a new light. However, it seems a waste to throw away a perfectly good
headlight and two amazing taillights (they are way brighter than PB
SuperFlash). Anyone have any suggestions for connecting these lights to
another battery or battery pack?
