A contractor will be using a lift truck to adjust the timing of the solar powered lights along the Campus Drive Path between December 9 and 12. Please exercise caution in the area.
The timing of the lights is be adjusted (from operating dusk til dawn) to operating 6 hours past dusk, and then again two hours before dawn) so that the batteries aren't irreparably damaged over the longest coldest nights this winter. Please also note that the section of the Campus Drive Path with solar powered lights has more ambient light than the sections of the path with lights that are connected to the grid. Depleted batteries are susceptible to freeze damage during very cold weather. To correct this issue and prolong the life of these components, we would like to adjust the controls to operate for eight hours every night. The new schedule would turn the lights on at dusk and run for 6 hours, then off, then on again 2 hours before dawn. We have scheduled a contractor to make these adjustments December 9 through December 12. These changes will require access with a lift truck.
