To anyone interested in pedestrian, bicycle, or transit connections and access in this area: The DOT email states: " At this time, the pedestrian and bike accommodations are planned to remain similar to what they are now. This area is used by many MATC students." The sidewalk is not continuous in this stretch of road, and there will continue to be gaps after this project is done. If this worries you - considering that MATC is so close by, there are a number of pedestrian destinations on the east side of the roadway (sports bar and Second Harvest Food Bank), as well as a Metro stop - please speak up. The project at the public meeting tomorrow is only the southbound lanes (west side of Stoughton Rd), but if they hear from enough people about pedestrian, bicycle, and transit access, it might be a good start to influence the later replacement of the northbound lanes. There will be a public meeting regarding plans for pavement replacement on Stoughton Rd/US 51 north of East Washington. According to the DOT: "Persons unable to attend the meeting can make their comments by contacting project manager Bill Strobel, WisDOT Southwest Region, 2101 Wright Street, Madison, WI, 53704-2853; (608) 242-8009."
