Been to Times Square lately? Its transformation into a pedestrian plaza last
year is due in part to the influence of Jan Gehl, a Danish architect and urban
planner who has worked for decades to make Copenhagen more bicycle and
pedestrian friendly.
On Climate Crossroads, he talks about how cities can be remade to "human
scale." In bike-friendly Copenhagen, for instance, 37 percent of all commuting
is by bicycle. But New York City actually has more miles of bike path -- most
of them added in just the past few years.
