Larry,

I have already forwarded this to Parks - East who is responsible for this
bridge and they will check it out.

If others have experienced this problem intersection, send a note to Report
a Problem. Maybe they'll finally do something to fix it.

what I reported to them:

"the gutters on both sides of the bridge (Riverside and Thornton) have been
ice-covered and hazardous since the school kids were out for Xmas break.
After one snow during break there was no snow removal; Streets left a
windrow at both gutters. A week later it was removed, but the ice had
solidified. It has been sanded, but with the recent snow and little or no
snow removal, it is again ice-covered and hazardous. My bike spun out today
even with studded tires. Definitely needs resanding."

Engineering, which I think is responsible for this bridge, apparently thinks
no one uses the bridge when the kids are not at school. At least no snow
removal was done during the two-week period and the problems persist, with
each new snow. In my case, it wasn't helped by the fact that an SUV
suddenly started driving backward at about 20 mph right into my path, no
doubt abetting the defensive spin-out.
