Though the Darwin reasoning might be a humorous response, the truth is medical
science has advanced so that if you hit your noggin on the hard pavement, you
are likely to be spared death. The difficulty with that is you may be given a
permanent head injury that makes it difficult to think for the rest of your
life. The pain that a parent, spouse, child has to endure after a family
member has suffered a brain injury is great. (As well as the societal costs
for someone with a permanent disability.) A friend of mine who works as a RN
on a rescue helicopter has this word of advice...anything faster than your
feet--wear a helmet.
It isn't just personal freedoms we are talking about here and your hair won't
get that messed up.
