This item has been brewing for some time. I remember Jeanne Hoffman and I going up to Waunakee way back when to say that "mapping the corridor" was the first step in people actually thinking a northern belt line was going to be built, which we thought was a really bad idea. We were told that, no, they just wanted to look at the options and make sure land was reserved, and there were no plans to actually build this roadway.
Now it looks like the Middleton City Council wants to actually map the route for a road, despite the fact that the North Mendota Parkway Committee couldn't decide what to do on the western end of road. [see forwarded message below.] Note that there is NO MONEY for this road (thank goodness.) The County certainly has no money. WisDOT has stated they have no interest, because it doesn't serve a regional purpose. The Transportation Planning Board (MPO) has made it clear that they have no money in the foreseeable future for this road. Yet Middleton, Waunakee, and Westport residents keep asking when it's going to be built. When you (Middleton, Waunakee, and Westport) pay for it out of your local property taxes, that's when. And I don't see that being a very popular choice. If you live in Middleton, or know someone who does, a letter saying this is a bad idea might be in order. Upon Council approval, City staff and the Plan Commission will be setting up a public hearing for the mapping of the corridor on the City’s Official Map. _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://lists.danenet.org/listinfo.cgi/bikies-danenet.org
