I suspect that there will have to be a substantial increase in the Operating
Budget to maintain the existing bike lanes, in addition to the new bike
lanes that are being planned.  I also suspect that having a sum sufficient
is going to be a challenge in the 2011 Budget.  On the other hand, "if you
can't maintain 'em, don't build 'em".

Good stuff...

I hope the Mayor and the other visitors in Europe on cycling strategies saw
some bike lane maintenance equipment in use...sure, big visions of grand
platinum bike plans are great...and yes our winters are tough on marking but
we should be planning for that issue...it would be nice to see the lanes we
have actually marked...many of them are just a nice memory...and without
them, cycling safety is compromised.
