Access to and along the Howard Temin Lakeshore Path between the Porter
Boathouse and the boat launch off of Parking Lot 60 will be restricted from
5am to 4pm on Wednesday May 26 due to an emergency response exercise (see the
email from UWPD below). Bicyclists and Pedestrians should use Observatory
Drive and Marsh Dr as an alternate route through the area.

Access along the Lakeshore Path just north of Parking Lot 34 and west of Liz
Waters will also be restricted for part of the day, Wednesday May 26.
Anticipate the possibility of delay, or use an alternative to the Lakeshore
Path between Park St. and Babcock Dr. (such as University Ave).

There will also be lots of teams launching boats at the same time, as the
Intercollegiate Sailing Association National Championships are being hosted
by Hoofers May 25-June 3, so expect a lot of congestion in the area of the
boat launch.

Campus exercise to test emergency response May 26

The University of Wisconsin-Madison will be conducting an emergency response
exercise from 5 a.m.- 4 p.m on Wednesday, May 26.

The full-scale exercise will be held in and around Bradley Residence Hall
(1900 Willow Drive) and UW Area Lot #34 (1480 Tripp Circle) and will involve
emergency personnel and vehicles from UW Police (UWPD) and other local
emergency response agencies.

This drill will involve a high degree of realism, including actors posing as
"victims" who may appear to be injured. There is also the potential that
members of the community traveling in the area will see police officers with
weapons drawn.

The exercise is designed to improve the university's response to a real
emergency or disaster situation, according to Lt. Michael Newton of UWPD, who
asks that people continue to go about their daily business and not be
alarmed.

UWPD will have signs posted explaining that the activity is only an exercise
and officers and volunteers positioned around the area will be answering
questions. At times during the exercise, officers will limit movement into
the area but will try not to cause inconvenience for anyone living or working
nearby.

If you have questions, call UWPD at (608) 264-COPS.
