It's about time for the next Bikies Happy Hour! I propose Wednesday, May 26, 5:30-7pm at the downtown Great Dane.
I am not going to be able to make it to the Madison ped/bike/motor vehicle commission (PBMC) public hearing on Tues. May 25 that is being held to "receive comments on potential pedestrian and bicycle projects the City should consider undertaking in the 2011-2013 Capital Budget to increase opportunities for walking and bicycling in Madison", and so I was hoping someone who was in attendance could fill me in over a pint. Reminder: The public hearing will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, in Room 260 of the Madison Municipal Building, 215 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. I see that the PBMC is also accepting written comments through June 4, 2010. I wouldn't mind brainstorming some ideas to send in to the commission. And, if you ARE planning on attending the PBMC hearing, please consider bringing a non-cyclist friend. I have recently spoken directly with city engineer Tony Fernandez, and I am pleased that the city is serious in their desire for input from the cycling community to inform upcoming cycling infrastructure improvements (both planning and implementation). In my opinion, one of our main focuses as cyclists ought to be to broaden the Madison cycling scene scope to include the almost never, first-time, fair-weather, and interested-to-try biking community. If they are included in the Madison cycling infrastructure plan, then we will have a stronger support base as well as have a chance to meaningfully increase ridership in Madison. I look forward to seeing some of you at the Dane. Bring your friends! Even those who rarely/never bike. -India, cyclist, pedestrian, and auto driver "How can we learn from our mistakes if we don't first acknowledge them?" -Anonymous _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://lists.danenet.org/listinfo.cgi/bikies-danenet.org
