Rep. Nass' comments underscore the need for ped/bike advocates to come up
with strategies to rebut elected officials who bicycle very little - if at
all - and then dare to bellyache about discrimination against motorists.
Where do they get off claiming to represent the people - especially "the
least among us"? Get your ass out here buddy and then you'll see what
discrimination looks like - i.e. the swift, the powerful, and the heavily
armored DOMINATE.

I would like to see an aggressive campaign to challenge elected officials to
make SPECIFIC commitments to walk and bicycle themselves. For example, a
State Senator could promise to walk to church all year, or bicycle twice a
month to the grocery store. And then we advocates should hold them to
account - something like the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters
scorecard.

Information is not enough; lobbying is not enough; elected officials need to
REGULARLY experience what life is like on the other side of the windshield.
Otherwise they are unqualified to represent their constituents who most need
representation.
