I thought some folks might be interested in the brief remarks the mayor made
about bikes in the "must read" link below.

Some of you may have heard about the State of the City
address<http://www.forwardlookout.com/2010/06/mayors-state-of-the-city-address.html>the
Mayor gave yesterday to the invite-only Rotary Club. Last night he
went
the Economic Development Commission to talk about it further. this is a must
read for neighborhood
leaders<http://www.forwardlookout.com/2010/06/mayor-economic-development-committee-and-development-process.html>.
This is very important for the development process and the neighborhood role
in that process. The business community including Smart Growth Madison
(developers), Downtown Madison Inc, the Chamber of Commerce, lobbyist Bill
White (not sure if he's working with and on behalf of DMI or not) and a
separate group of developers that Paul Skidmore works with all have their
private sessions and input, but there looks like there is little to no
discussion about how to get input from neighborhoods, Plan Commission or the
Urban Design Commission. Vicky Selkowe attempted to get that in there, but
they left without a plan. And, to add insult to injury, they hope to get
this all wrapped up over the summer, by Labor Day. Depending upon what the
recommendations are, this could be a big change for neighborhoods and it is
definitely something to pay attention to.
